As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, both challenges and opportunities arise. The vision of the Colorado Christian University Global Studies major is to form graduates equipped to address these challenges, and to leverage the opportunities this interconnectedness presents for advancing a Christian worldview, sharing the good news of the gospel, and knowledgeably engaging the nations of the world, whether at home or abroad.

To implement this vision, the program adopts an interdisciplinary approach, synthesizing methods and insights from such fields as cultural anthropology, geopolitics and diplomacy, history, missiology, business, linguistics, geography, economics, and more, into a cohesive understanding of the world today. Whereas the secular Global Studies student is taught to view the world in terms of neo-Marxist ideology or Critical Theory, the CCU student adds to his or her intercultural competence a firm grounding in a Christian, pro-Western, and conservative worldview.

Upon graduation, students are prepared to pursue careers at home or abroad in such areas as diplomacy, international business, international law, public relations, foreign service, traditional mission, journalism, or service with non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations. They are prepared to leverage their broad base of knowledge, interdisciplinary skills, critical thinking, and writing skills to pursue graduate study in law, economics, business, anthropology, history, and more. Most importantly, CCU Global Studies graduates are equipped to effectively and eloquently engage the world with grace and truth, contributing positively and professionally in their chosen fields.

All Global Studies majors are required to complete an international experience with CCU, consisting of one of the following, subject to approval by the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences:

  • a CCU2theWorld International Mission Trip,

  • an international academic travel course,

  • a course international internship, international research experience, or other pre-professional international experience (a domestic internship would not normally count),

  • course field experience in Intercultural Ministry,

  • a study abroad semester,

  • other international experiences, if pre-approved by program director.

Graduates of the Global Studies Major will be able to:

1.     Articulate a Christian, conservative, pro-Western worldview, defending it against alternative ideologies, including neo-Marxism and Critical Theory.

2.     Utilize an interdisciplinary approach to analyze the complexities of globalization and its social, economic, political, and cultural dimensions, connecting these global issues to local and regional contexts.

3.     Demonstrate intercultural communicative competence, cultural intelligence, and second language skills to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures and worldviews, facilitating evangelism and understanding in both local and global contexts.

4.     Apply critical thinking, analytical, and writing skills to explain how local circumstances influence global events and vice versa, enabling informed discussions about contemporary issues.

5.     Design a thoughtful post-graduation vocational plan that reflects a commitment to engaging with global issues, guided by a Christian perspective and a vision for impacting the world with grace and truth.
